First-Year Applicants
When you apply to Purdue, you apply for admission into a specific major. Review our first-year criteria, high school course requirements and English proficiency requirements before applying to ensure that you meet or exceed Purdue’s minimum requirements for admission.
Transfer Applicants
If you have completed 12 or more credit hours of college-level coursework after high school graduation, you will apply as a transfer student. Review our Transfer Student Checklist for requirements and next steps. Check our Closed Programs page before you apply to ensure your desired program is available for the term you wish to begin.
International Curriculum Requirements
If you are a student from an institution with an international high school curriculum, you should meet or exceed the university’s minimum high school course requirements. If you are from a non-English-speaking country, you are not required to meet the world language requirement.
Please refer to the overview of high school coursework documentation required for international applicants, which is listed below by country of origin.
To apply to Purdue, you must provide:
- At least three consecutive years of courses and grades
- Proof of high school graduation and/or a high school diploma prior to enrolling at Purdue
- Any additional documentation as outlined below based on your country of origin
Transcript Document Translations
Transcript documents that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. We offer paid translation services through Purdue’s School of Languages and Cultures in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
International Secondary Document Requirements
You may need to supply additional documents to complete Purdue’s undergraduate admission application. Refer to the table below to find requirements for your country of origin. If your country or your high school curriculum is not listed, submit all transcripts and/or diplomas from all secondary and/or post-secondary schools you’ve attended.

If you are from Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, you should submit:
- Senior secondary school transcripts from years 9 to 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Senior secondary school transcript
- West African School Certificate (WAEC certificate)
- National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate
Purdue may request that you share your certificate through the WAEC Digital Certificate Platform for verification.
You should submit:
- Junior secondary transcripts from years 9 and 10
- Upper secondary education transcripts from years 11 and 12
- If you are from the Northern Territory, then you need to submit transcripts from years 10, 11 and 12.
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Upper secondary transcript
- Senior secondary certificate from the respective region
- Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Senior Secondary Certificate
- New South Wales (NSW) Higher School Certificate
- Northern Territory Certificate of Education
- Queensland Senior Certificate
- South Australian Certificate of Education
- Tasmanian Certificate of Education
- Victorian Certificate of Education
- Western Australian Certificate of Education
You should submit:
- Fundamental education transcript from year 9
- Middle education transcript from years 10 and 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Transcripts from year 10 to 12
- Certificate of secondary education (diploma/certificado de ensino médio)
If you are from countries that follow the Russian-pattern education system including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, you should submit:
- Primary education transcript that includes years 8 and 9
- Secondary education transcript from years 10 and 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Final transcript from years 10 and 11
- Official copies of the Attestation of Education Certificate, along with the transcript record
If you have been educated through the British-pattern education system in countries in the Caribbean including Anguilla, Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Montserrat, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad-Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and British Virgin Islands, then you should submit one of the following documents:
- General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O-level)
- International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE)
- Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC)
- Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE)
A minimum of five academic subjects including English, mathematics, natural/physical science and social science passed in these examinations will be required for admission consideration. The documents are equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma only if a minimum of five exam passes are achieved. Submission of the above documents must be accompanied by academic records/transcripts from secondary education at the time of application.
Purdue recognizes advanced secondary school coursework, which includes A-level and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). To receive college credits, you will need to submit one of the following documents:
- General Certificate of Education Advanced Level issued by the exam boards
- Caribbean Examinations Council Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)
Alberta
You should submit:
- Junior high school transcript from year 9
- High school transcript from years 10 and 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- High school transcript from years 10 to 12
- High school diploma
British Columbia
You should submit:
- Junior secondary transcript from years 9 and 10
- Senior secondary transcript from year 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Senior secondary transcript
- British Columbia high school diploma
Ontario
You should submit:
- Transcript from years 9 to 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Secondary school transcript from years 9 to 12
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
To be more competitive, Purdue encourages students who are enrolled in the Ontario curriculum to have at least six 4U/4M courses.
Quebec
You should submit:
- Secondary education transcript from year 9, 10 and 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Secondary education transcript from years 9 to 12
- Certificate of graduation
If you are attending a Chinese high school, you should submit:
- Middle school transcript including year 9
- High school transcript including years 10 and 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Final high school transcript for years 10 to 12
- Senior secondary school exam certificate (会考)
- High school graduation certificate (高中毕业证)
- Gaokao (高考) scores (optional)
Purdue may require verification of an applicant’s high school diploma or Gaokao scores from the China Credentials Verification website.
If you are from France and its overseas departments, or from the francophone countries (Algeria, Cameroon, Morocco, etc.), you should submit:
- Collège (junior secondary) transcript for year 9
- Lycée (senior secondary) transcript for years 10 and 11
If you have graduated from high school, you should submit:
- Baccalauréat de l’Enseignement Secondaire (diploma of secondary education)
- Relevé de notes (transcript of grades) from the final examination
- The final senior secondary school transcript
Please note that all educational institutions and all external examinations (French Baccalaureate) are administered by the French Ministry of National Education. The overseas departments of France include French Guiana, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe, Corse, Clipperton Island, Martinique, Mayotte, Miquelon, Wallis and Fortuna, New Caledonia, Reunion, St. Barthelemy, St. Martin and St. Pierre.
If you have been educated through the International General Certificate of Secondary Education/General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE/GCSE) system, you are required to have passed examinations in a minimum of five academic subjects including English, mathematics, natural/physical science and social science. The documents are comparable to a U.S. high school diploma only if a minimum of five exam passes are achieved.
If you have been educated through the IGCSE system, you should submit:
- IGCSE issued by the exam boards
- Academic records/transcripts from high school
If you have been educated through the GCSE system from the United Kingdom, you should submit either:
- GCSE certificate issued by the exam boards
- High school transcript that consolidates all GCSE exam grades issued by various exam boards
Purdue does not have any AS- or A-level subject requirements; however, most applicants complete three to four AS- or A-level subjects. Applicants that do not complete any further study beyond IGCSE or GCSE are generally not considered competitive applicants. Purdue recognizes A-level examinations. College credits may be awarded to applicants who successfully complete A-level exams. To receive college credits as an admitted student, you will need to submit:
- General Certificate of Education Advanced Level issued by the exam boards
Purdue does not award any college credits for pre-university studies or foundation year classes from any U.K. institutions.
Standard X and Standard XII Examination
If you are currently enrolled in any Indian curriculum such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) or State Board, you should submit:
- Marksheet for internal grades from years 9 to 11
- Copy of the Standard X certificate issued by the exam board
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Attested copy of the Standard X certificate issued by the exam board
- Attested copy of the Standard XII certificate issued by the exam board
Purdue requires four years of secondary mathematics coursework and three years of laboratory science coursework for all majors. However, we understand that the mathematics and laboratory science requirement may be difficult for students who are enrolled in commerce or humanities tracks after Standard X examination. While not taking mathematics and/or laboratory science classes will disadvantage your academic profile, we do still encourage you to apply to Purdue for consideration. We strongly encourage students in this situation to take the SAT or ACT to show their math ability.
Diploma Program
If you are enrolled in a two-year diploma program after the Standard X exam, the two-year coursework will be counted toward high school completion. You will need to apply to Purdue as a first-year student. No college credits will be awarded to the classes from the diploma program. You should submit:
- Attested copy of the Standard X certificate issued by the exam board
- Official marksheet from the diploma program issued by the accredited institution
If you are enrolled in a three-year diploma program after the Standard X exam, the first two-year coursework will be counted toward high school completion. The third-year coursework will be evaluated for college credits on a course-by-course basis. You will need to apply to Purdue as a transfer applicant instead of a first-year student.
If you are taking International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, you will be considered for admission whether or not you are pursuing the IB diploma as long as the minimum high school course requirements are met. For admission purposes, higher level (HL) coursework is not given a particular preference over standard level (SL) coursework. Your entire academic profile will be reviewed holistically. Purdue does not have an overall IB minimum score requirement.
You should submit:
- Transcript from years 9 to 11 (if still in progress)
- Predicted IB scores if available
If you have completed the IB diploma, then you should submit:
- Transcript from years 9 to 12
- IB diploma certificate
- IB scores, sent to Purdue directly from the IB organization
Purdue recognizes IB examinations. College credits will be awarded for most HL exams and a few SL exams. To receive college credits after admission, you will need to submit the IB exam scores directly from the IB organization to Purdue Admissions.
Students from Malaysia who completed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysian (SPM) exam will need to complete an additional year of high school study prior to applying to Purdue as a first-year student. You should submit:
- SPM, or Malaysian Certificate of Education
- Additional year of advanced studies, such as:
- Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM, Malaysian Higher School Certificate)
- IGCSE A-level
- Classes for an IB program
- Completion of the first year of the American Degree Transfer program
If you are from Malaysia studying at a Chinese school, you should submit:
- Secondary school transcript from years 9 to 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Final high school transcript from years 10 to 12
- Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) for independent Chinese schools in Malaysia
You should submit:
- Level 1 and Level 2 record of National Certificate of Education (NCEA) record
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Level 1, 2 and 3 record of NCEA
- Record of achievement
Singapore O-level
If you are enrolled in the Singapore O-level, you should submit:
- Singapore/Cambridge O-level examinations
- Higher secondary transcript from years 11 and 12
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Singapore/Cambridge O-level examinations
- Singapore/Cambridge A-level examinations
Polytechnic Program
If you are enrolled in a two-year polytechnic program after the O-level, your work will be counted toward high school completion. You should apply as a first-year student and submit:
- Singapore/Cambridge O-level examinations
- Polytechnic transcript
If you are enrolled in a three-year polytechnic program after O-levels, the first two years of work will be counted toward high school completion while third-year work will be evaluated for transfer credit on a course-by-course basis. You will apply to Purdue as a transfer applicant.
If you are enrolled in the Korean curriculum, you should submit:
- Junior secondary transcript for year 9
- Senior secondary transcript for years 10 and 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Senior secondary transcript from years 10 to 12
- High school certificate (Inmungye Kodung Hakkyo)
You should submit:
- Junior high school transcript from year 9
- Senior high school transcript from year 10 and 11
If you have graduated from high school, then you should submit:
- Senior high school transcript from years 10 to 12
- Senior high school diploma
If you complete the junior college diploma, you will need to apply to Purdue as a transfer applicant. Credit may be awarded for the last two years of studies on a course-by-course basis.
You should submit:
