How to prepare for college
While taking core (English, math, science, social studies and world language) and advanced classes (honors, AP, IB and dual credit) are important to prepare yourself mentally and academically for college, you also need a variety of experiences. Extracurriculars, volunteer opportunities, jobs and helping friends and family, all build important personal and social skills. Being able to build community with others is a great skill to have when entering college. Further, these experiences will help you write unique essays for not only your college application, but also scholarship and internship applications as well.
What is an early outreach coordinator?
I work to increase the college-going rate of students in Marion County, Indiana, with a focus on serving historically underserved communities. I provide guidance and support to students from middle school through high school, helping them and their families navigate the college search, application and selection process. Through engaging presentations and events, I foster awareness of higher education opportunities, build confidence in the college-going journey and promote strategies for academic success throughout students’ educational pathways.
